Saturday, after spending all the day on the yacht, in the evening we landed at the Longines Global Champions Tour just before the beginning of the Grand Prix du Monaco. I had the honor of meeting Mr. Juan Carlos Capelli, Vice President of Longines in the world, and I could then ask him about the meaning of the watchmaker‘s partnership signed with FEI (Fédération Equestre International) and so with the world of equestrian sports:
We have the same values: elegance, tradition and performance. There is nothing more elegant in the world than a horse and its rider jumping together in harmony, in the same way every Longines watch is carefully designed on the basis of elegance. The performance is very important for us and lies in the accuracy of the watch, the same millimeter accuracy when a rider jumps a fence with his horse. The sport of show jumping has a great history, as well as Longines has a strong tradition and since 1832 produces some of the best chronographs in the whole world. Our headquarters is located in the small village of Saint-Imier, though the Swiss mountains, and in my office, if I look out at the window, I see the horses, because in that country and in that region, the horseback riding is well developed. The sport I played when I was little it was the show jumping so, for all these reasons, as you can see, we only do what is really natural for us, what we are.
Sabato, dopo aver trascorso tutto il giorno in yacht, in serata siamo approdati al Longines Global Champions Tour poco prima dell’inizio del Grand Prix du Monaco. Ho avuto l’onore di conoscere il sig. Juan Carlos Capelli, Vice Presidente di Longines nel mondo, e ho potuto quindi domandargli il significato per la Maison orologiera della partnership siglata con FEI (Fédération Equestre International) e quindi il mondo degli sport equestri:
Abbiamo gli stessi valori: eleganza, performance e tradizione. Non c’è nulla di più elegante al mondo di un cavallo e del suo cavaliere che saltano insieme in armonia, allo stesso modo ogni orologio Longines viene accuratamente concepito sulla base dell’eleganza. La performance per noi è molto importante e risiede nella precisione dell’orologio, la stessa precisione millimetrica di un binomio che affronta un ostacolo. Lo sport del salto ostacoli ha una grande storia, così come Longines possiede una forte tradizione e dal 1832 produce alcuni tra i migliori cronografi al mondo. La nostra sede centrale si trova nel piccolo paese di Saint-Imier, tra le montagne Svizzere, e nel mio ufficio, se guardo dalla finestra, vedo i cavalli, perchè in quel paese e in quella regione l’equitazione è ben sviluppata. Lo sport che ho praticato quando ero piccolo è stato proprio il salto ostacoli, quindi per tutte queste ragioni, come può capire, facciamo solo ciò che per noi è davvero naturale, ciò che siamo.
