Longines FEI World Cup Verona

It just ended the 117th edition of Fiera Cavalli in Verona, unmissable event for horse lovers, and Jumping Verona inside it with its appointments of international showjumping and the only Italian leg of the most important indoor circuit, the fourth of the Western Europe of the World Cup – of which Longines is the title partner and official timekeeper – let go on stage a great equestrian sport with a real parade of champions and elite players.

Si è appena conclusa la 117° edizione di Fiera Cavalli a Verona, evento imperdibile per gli appassionati del settore, e Jumping Verona all’interno di essa con i suoi appuntamenti di salto ostacoli internazionale e l’unica tappa Italiana del più importante circuito indoor, la quarta del girone Europa Occidentale di Coppa del Mondo – di cui Longines è title partner e cronometrista ufficiale – ha visto andare in scena una grande equitazione con una vera e propria parata di campioni e protagonisti d’elite.

Designed by Italian course designer Uliano Vezzani, of which we were able to make the reconnaissance with explanation jump to jump, the Longines FEI World Cup Verona was the perfect opportunity to discover the Official Watch of the event, then handed over to the winner during the awards ceremony by the hands of Juan Carlos Capelli, Longines Vice President: a model of the new collection Longines DolceVita, steel and embellished with diamonds, it has a dial with silver flinquè background and painted Roman numerals, as clear reference to the Italian sweet life.

Disegnata dallo chef de piste azzurro Uliano Vezzani, e di cui ci è stato possibile farne la ricognizione con spiegazione salto per salto, la Longines FEI World Cup Verona è stata l’occasione perfetta per scoprire l’Orologio Ufficiale della manifestazione, consegnato poi al vincitore durante la cerimonia di premiazione per mano di Juan Carlos Capelli, Vice Presidente Longines: un modello della nuova collezione Longines DolceVita, in acciaio e impreiziosito da diamanti, presenta un quadrante con sfondo argento flinqué e numeri romani dipinti, per un chiaro richiamo alla dolce vita Italiana.

40 starters into the Grand Prix 1.60m of Longines FEI World Cup with a barrage formula that included a first round of 13 obstacles for a total of 16 jumps, and has seen access to the second decisive round only 15 riders. Barrage punctuated by constant twists and changes of ranking, where triumphed the French rider Simon Delestre, new leader of the Western League of the Longines FEI World Cup, riding his Hermes Ryan repeated the clear round and stopped the clock in 36.46. Second place went to Henrik von Eckermann (36.72) on Cantinero, winner of the Grand Prix of Rome Piazza di Siena last May, and that has left behind an incredible third ex aequo place (zero penalties and exact same time!) to German Ludger Beerbaum with Chaman and English Scott Brash on Hello M’Lady. 40 i binomi al via nel Gran Premio 1.60m di Coppa del Mondo Longines FEI per una formula a barrage che prevedeva un primo giro da 13 ostacoli per un totale di 16 salti, e che ha visto accedere al secondo decisivo percorso solo 15 cavalieri. Barrage scandito da continui colpi di scena e cambi di classifica, dove a trionfare è stato il francese Simon Delestre, nuovo leader della classifica della Western League della Longines FEI Coppa del Mondo, che in sella al suo Hermes Ryan ha ripetuto il netto e fermato il cronometro a 36.46. Secondo posto per  Henrik von Eckermann (36.72) su Cantinero, vincitore del Gran Premio Roma di Piazza di Siena dello scorso maggio, e che si è lasciato alle spalle una incredibile terza posizione ex aequo (zero penalità e stesso identico tempo!) del tedesco Ludger Beerbaum con Chaman  ed il britannico Scott Brash su Hello M’Lady. HENRIK VON ECKERMANN – 2nd place
Uliano Vezzani designs courses always perfect. To be honest I think there could have been at least three clear rounds in less, but better this way than to have horses who are struggling to get through. With Uliano we can always be sure that you can also go in competition the following week with horses perfectly fresh and not at all stressed. Everything very positive.

HENRIK VON ECKERMANN – 2° classificato
Uliano Vezzani disegna sempre percorsi perfetti. Se devo essere sincero penso che ci sarebbero potuti essere almeno tre percorsi netti in meno, ma meglio così piuttosto che avere i cavalli che fanno fatica ad arrivare in fondo. Con Uliano possiamo sempre essere certi di poter andare in gara anche la settimana successiva con i cavalli perfettamente freschi e per nulla stressati. Tutto molto positivo.

SCOTT BRASH – 3rd place ex aequo with Ludger Beerbaum
Really great job as the arena’s Director, Uliano, as always enables us to go away with the horses ready to go for the next leg. I agree that clear rounds could be two less, but better so than not. In any case, the barrage was not easy and quite errorabile.

SCOTT BRASH – 3° classificato ex aequo con Ludger Beerbaum
Ottimo lavoro davvero quello del direttore di campo, Uliano, come sempre ci permette sempre di andare via con i cavalli pronti a partire per il prossimo appuntamento agonistico. Sono d’accordo sul fatto che i percorsi netti potevano essere due in meno, ma meglio così piuttosto che il contrario. In ogni caso il barrage non era affatto semplice e piuttosto errorabile.

SIMON DELESTRE – 1st place
Round super nice and proper to the horses, without hidden difficulties and into a beautiful arena. Sand is also excellent into the warm up arena, all perfect. Hermes Ryan is a fabulous horse, maybe the best I’ve ever rode. I have other two wonderful horses in my stable: Qlassiq Bois Margot, both in great shape. Verona was the first competition after the European Championships in Aachen for Ryan and so the first day was a little ‘hot. When I realized what was in shape, I decided to change my program. Normally I do a low class on the first day and then the Grand Prix. Here in Verona I instead decided to make the big class yesterday because I wanted that becomes exhausted a bit ‘and take a feel for the size of the obstacles. He’s a small horse with big potential and that’s always a plus when you have to be fast. Before entering the barrage I thought to not ask him too many: the goal was to be fast but not too much. That was enough.

SIMON DELESTRE – 1° classificato
Percorso super bello e giusto nei confronti dei cavalli, senza difficoltà nascoste e in una bellissima arena. Terreno ottimo anche in campo prova, tutto perfetto. Hermes Ryan è un cavallo favoloso, forse il migliore che io abbia mai montato. Ho altri due cavalli fantastici in scuderia: Qlassiq Bois Margot, entrambi in super forma. Verona è stato il primo concorso dopo gli Europei di Aquisgrana per Ryan e quindi il primo giorno era un po’ caldo. Quando mi sono reso conto di quanto era in forma, ho deciso di cambiare il mio programma. Normalmente faccio una gara bassa il primo giorno e quindi il Gran Premio. Qui a Verona ho invece deciso di fare la gara grossa anche ieri perchè volevo che si scaricasse un po’ e prendesse confidenza con la dimensione degli ostacoli. E’ un cavallo piccolo e con grandi mezzi e questo è sempre un vantaggio quando si deve essere veloci. Prima di entrare in barrage avevo pensato di non chiedergli troppo: l’obiettivo era essere veloce ma senza esagerare. E’ bastato.
